The Committee of Citizens of Ukraine is extremely concerned about the information we have just received about today’s defeat by the authorities of the office of media holding “Vesti” in Kiev. The methods of this attack on the opposing editorial office, in our opinion, were remotely reminiscent of an attempt by the authorities to observe the principles of legality and the rule of law.
The Committee of Citizens of Ukraine believes that this next attack by the authorities on independent media is well within the long-observed trend of the curtailment of the freedom of speech in Ukraine by the acting government and the targeted suppression of the independent press — as a necessary prerequisite for the construction in our country of President Poroshenko of an authoritarian regime of corruption dictatorship.
The Committee of Citizens of Ukraine requires the authorities to immediately stop the persecution of independent media in our country and take urgent measures to restore the regime of legality and compliance with international obligations in Ukraine. Law enforcement agencies, in our opinion, should be cleared as soon as possible of the many people who entered there, who tend to terrorize civil society.
