Regarding the inadmissibility of Hungary’s continued presence in the European Union and NATO

Since the beginning of Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2022, Hungary has systematically demonstrated its special position, which each time radically contradicts the consolidated position of the other members of the European Union and NATO.

It should be noted that both the European Union and NATO, by their very essence, are associations of countries that share common values. In particular, the norms of international law and the UN Charter.

At the same time, Hungary, by systematically expressing its disagreement regarding Russia’s attack on Ukraine with the position of other countries in the European Union and NATO, demonstrates to the whole world its solidarity with the position of Russia, and not with the position of the entire civilized world.

The International Committee for the Defense of Freedom and Civil Society respects the choice of the Hungarian people, who elected Viktor Orban as Prime Minister, who carries out the pro-Kremlin policy described above. But at the same time, the International Committee for the Defense of Freedom and Civil Society believes that such a policy of supporting the Kremlin, which violates the fundamental norms of international law and systematically commits war crimes, is in no way compatible with Hungary’s continued presence in the European Union and NATO.

In connection with the above, the International Committee for the Defense of Freedom and Civil Society recommends that the European Union and NATO urgently consider the issue of expelling Hungary from their membership.
