The Committee of Citizens of Ukraine is extremely concerned about the information we have just received about today’s defeat by the authorities of the office of media holding “Vesti” in Kiev. The methods of this attack on the opposing editorial office, in our opinion, were remotely reminiscent of an attempt by the authorities to observe the principles of legality and the rule of law.
Committee of citizens of Ukraine considers undertaken by the authorities this week’s attack on the studio Savik Shuster unacceptable violation of democracy. Such actions of the government say that the authorities intend to completely suppress all the centers of freedom of speech in Ukraine, as well as to remove from the air all channels unsanctioned criticism of government policy. In fact, today in Ukraine there is a speech about the complete suppression of dissent and trying to create in our country a totalitarian system of government.
The International Committee of the free press and protection of journalists’ rights are extremely concerned about the decision of the Ukrainian authorities, who had just forbidden to work in Ukraine known journalist Savik Shuster, who in their programs systematically subjected to ruthless, but justified criticism of the activities of the Ukrainian authorities.
International Committee for the Protection of press freedom and journalists’ rights very surprised by the fact the lack of visible progress in the investigation of numerous cases of Ukrainian authorities targeted attacks on journalists by police in central Kiev, November 30, 2013 and December 1, 2013. Despite the fact that the perpetrators are well known and do not hide from justice.
International Committee for the Protection of the free press and journalists’ rights is concerned about the facts of the pressure of the Ukrainian authorities on the independent press, which led to the recent cessation of activity in Kiev two oppositional newspapers – “Newspaper in Kiev” and “Evening News”.
