About the pressure of the Ukrainian authorities on independent media

International Committee for the Protection of the free press and journalists’ rights is concerned about the facts of the pressure of the Ukrainian authorities on the independent press, which led to the recent cessation of activity in Kiev two oppositional newspapers – “Newspaper in Kiev” and “Evening News”.

International Committee for the Protection of the free press and journalists’ rights view such facts clear evidence of non-democratic regime and the ruling by Ukraine to put all the responsibility for such harassment of independent media on the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich, concentrated in his hands lately all the levers of power.

International Committee for the Protection of the free press and journalists’ rights calls on the Ukrainian government to take urgent measures to resume the work of these newspapers and to stop any further pressure and repression against independent media in Ukraine.
